Bride transports her dying dog 'Dood' across two states to be the ring bearer

Dood the golden retriever had never left Utah.

So when his owner, Cassidy Williams, got the heartbreaking diagnosis that her best friend was battling terminal bone cancer, she had to find a way to something for him.

Williams, 29, was planning on getting married to her 33-year-old fiance, Matthijs, in Manzanita, a coastal town in Oregon, in early August, and so devised a plan so that Dood, her childhood pet, could be part of the ceremony, WSVN reported.

'We scrambled to figure out what to do,' Williams told the network.

Williams and her family decided that her dad could cancel his flight to Oregon and drive instead.

While the journey was a long 13 hours, they believed Dood would be fine.

Once they arrived, the dog would both be the ring bearer at the wedding and see the ocean for the first time.

Tragically, it would also be the last.

'Dood has always lived in a little bubble,' Williams told WSVN.

Williams described the moment that Dood saw the water as amazing.

'He was so happy, he had so much energy,' she said.

With Dood now back in Utah, Williams will travel home to say goodbye to her dog this weekend.
