Dog was saved from the rain by amazingly nice couple

Cold, shivering and wet - dogs feel it too. Thankfully this kind-hearted couple took care of an Alsatian that was left tied to a lamppost outside a shop.

The pictures were taken on Biggin Street in Dover and show the man take off his jacket to shelter the shivering animal, while its owner shopped in Marks and Spencer, as the rain battered down.

A shop worker Jon Sparkes saw the heart-warming moment and even gave the couple two umbrellas to shelter themselves and the dog.

They stayed with the pet until its female owner came out of the store 20 minutes later.

Onlookers said she appeared grateful and thanked the couple for looking after her dog.

Mr Sparkes, an assistant manager at Dover Gala Bingo, said: 'The rain was coming down really hard but these two people saw the dog was tied up to the lamppost and basically gave it shelter.

'As you can see the dude has taken his top off to protect the dog - the dog was there before the rain came.

'They've selflessly protected the dog from rain and we've seen that and gave them umbrellas.

'They were really grateful and they waited there until the owner came back who was also very grateful to the couple.'

On its Facebook page, Dover Gala Bingo said: 'These two kind hearted individuals are selflessly helping a stranger's dog stay dry in the sudden downpour of torrential rain earlier today.

'It really is quite heart-warming to see acts of kindness like this.

'It made us want to help too. It's nice to be nice - do something good today.'

The act of kindness came as Kent was hit by more than a month's worth of rainfall in just 24 hours.

Ricky Cook, 28, also saw the touching moment, which happened on Sunday.

He said: 'We had no idea who they were, they just turned up and the guy had even taken his jacket off.

'Jon took them over some umbrellas to help them out.

'It wasn't raining originally, but after the dog had been waiting around five or ten minutes, there was just this sudden downpour.

'The couple stayed with the dog about 15 to 20 minutes for the owner to return.

'It wasn't like an animal cruelty thing, they were just being nice.

'It just started raining out of nowhere.'
