How to Wrap the Hair of a Silkie Guinea Pig

Wrapping your silkie will keep his hair clean and free of tangles. The first few times you wrap his coat, the process will be time consuming and he may not tolerate it well, but with practice and patience, as well as offering treats during grooming sessions, he should soon start to enjoy grooming time.

Wraps should be changed every other day, and never left in for longer than four days at a time, so you will have ample opportunity to practice.

    • 1

Comb your silkie guinea pig so his coat is tangle free.

    • 2

Divide a section of coat to begin your wrap. You want to end up with between four and six wraps of equal size, so keep that in mind when picking up your first section.

  • Place the section of hair on top of your wrap, smoothing the hair down, so that it is lying neatly in the center of the wrap.

  • 4

Fold the left and right section of the wrap over the middle, so the hair is totally enclosed.

  • 5

Fold the wrap up at the bottom. Fold the wrap in thirds, so that it is high enough on your silkie that the wrap will not drag the ground.

  • 6

Secure the wrap with a rubber band.

  • 7

Repeat the process on the next section of hair.
